The Dharma Bums, Jack Kerouac
Kerouac is known most prolifically for his novel On The Road, however, as an avid Kerouac reader I would argue The Dharma Bums is one of his better works. In this account of his time after the events told of in On the Road, Kerouac allows us inside two warring sides of himself. His eyes being opened by the transcendental and tranquil Buddhism, and his crazed, booze-filled benders take us again on a journey with him and allow us to see into the lives of, what I consider, the most fascinating of American sub-culture groups. |
