I was amazed at how the texture of these nuggets was so close to real chicken. Maybe its because I haven't had real chicken in a while, but I think more than not its just because this recipe is that good. This is an easy way to get people adverse to tofu, eating it. The coating is so flavourful there can be no complaints tofu is somehow bland.

Ingredients
- 175g Extra Firm Tofu (1/2 block, not pressed), cubed and dried with a paper towel
- 1/3-1/2 cup water
- 1/3 cup flour of your choice
- 2 tbsp nutritional yeast
- 1 tbsp Dijon Mustard
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 2-3 tbsp olive or coconut oil to fry with
Directions
- Heat oil in frying pan at a medium heat
- In a small bowl mix together flour, nutritional yeast, salt, chill powder, and pepper
- Add in mustard and water, and stir until well combined
- Mixture should resemble a very soft dough
- Coat tofu cubes with seasoning on all sides
- Fry for 5 minutes in hot pan, flip and fry for another 5 minutes
- Nuggets are done when crispy and lightly brown on the outside but still soft and slightly moist on the inside
- Serve with dip of your choice
NOtes
- You can change the flavour of these nuggets by substituting the chill powder for another spice like lemon pepper or italian spice
- Extra Firm tofu is ideal for this recipe because when cooked in the batter its the most similar to the texture of a real chicken nugget
